In the 1950’s Walter Davies opened his first shop on Winter Hey Lane, Horwich. At that time, Horwich was a thriving town, with the Locomotive Works, Chortex Towel Mill and De Haviland being the towns main employers.
It was also around the time people started having fitted carpets. Prior to that, carpets squares and runners were only available. With Walter specialising in good quality patterned carpets, which were very fashionable at the time, and employing very good fitters, his reputation grew.In 1971 his son Russell came into the business, along with his wife Jean.
Around that time they bought a second, larger shop on Winter Hey Lane and used the original shop as a storeroom. Later that year they also opened a third branch in Westhoughton, which Walter looked after, leaving Russell and Jean to run the Horwich branch.
The business went from strength to strength, with the ever growing demand for good quality carpets, and Russell made the decision to move the business to a much larger store. In 1986 he took over an old car showroom and converted it into a huge stunning carpet showroom.
Several years later, they opened a curtain and blind department, providing a professional and bespoke made to measure service. As this department grew, Russell and Jean took on board their son Neill, now a third generation within the industry. Over the years he developed it into a thriving department, offering uniquely creative and beautiful contemporary designs. Following current trends and fashions, the curtain department transformed into Horwich Interiors with an impressive selection of wallpapers, fabrics and upholstery all on offer.
